Dope out your brand conscious craziness by taking this quiz
Graphic designers and marketing types obsess about logos. They go ape if some poor dink accidentally stretches a logo, or tweaks its colors, or somehow misaligns its atomic structure. Average zubs in the street (you and me, for example) don’t fret much about logo mechanics or artistry via surface alertness. Zubs like us do, however, ponder the drift of logos in the swirling murk of our subconscious minds.
Martin Christie, creative director at Logo Design London, reports that logos of all shapes are hotbeds of psychological intrigue. “When it comes to developing a brand, logo design is king,” Christie says. “Their power to elicit an emotional response can have a resounding effect on the way customers and potential customers view a particular product, service or company. A powerful logo may look simple but there’s nothing simple about creating effective logo shapes. Be aware that the logo shapes used to portray the most visible brands in our culture have not been chosen by chance—there are some powerful psychological forces at work.”
What would the world be without Wikipedia? For one thing, we wouldn’t have this definition: “A logo (abbr. of logotype, from Greek: λόγος logos—word, idea + Greek: τύπος typos—imprint, picture) is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by commercial enterprises, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed of the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark).”
Enough with logo awareness month. Time for the quiz. Each question presents a fragment of a well-known logo. Using the given clue as a guide, you have to conjure up the whole logo in your head and then choose which company, organization or brand that logo represents. Okay, get started.
